The Mysterious Island is set at the time of the Civil War, five men escape by hot air balloon from the Yankee siege of Richmond, Virginia and end up on a mysterious island. Two sequels were written by Jules Verne. The Mysterious Island itself was a sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and In Search of the Castaways.
